About the President
Jennifer Geiling
Jennifer Geiling is the President of 1digit LLC. Jennifer started her career as a corporate lawyer. Inspired to make a difference in the life of her brother-in-law Hank who was born with developmental disabilities, Jennifer founded Hankering For More (HFM). HFM is a nonprofit with a mission to realize community inclusion and facilitate social networks for adults with developmental disabilities. Jennifer oversaw the merger of HFM with Young Adult Institute (YAI), where HFM is in its third decade of service to thousands of families across the tri-state area.
After serving as Executive Director of WellMet, a foundation focused on funding social entrepreneurs, Jennifer joined New York City government in 2016 to launch the Nonprofit Resiliency Committee (NRC), a public-private partnership comprised of 100 nonprofit organizations and city leadership. The NRC improved the nonprofit operating environment through policy reform and systemic changes including a 25% upfront annual advance on contract budgets, full funding of indirect cost rates, and establishing a standardized approach to human services financial management. In 2022, the NRC became a permanent New York City initiative through legislation that created the Mayor’s Office of Nonprofit services. During her tenure with the City of New York, Jennifer also served as a Deputy Director at the Mayor’s Office of Contract Services (MOCS) where she led initiatives to expand business opportunities for minority and women-owned enterprises (M/WBEs), supported the design, rollout and implementation of the first citywide digital procurement system (PASSPort), and established a communications and public relations unit while also serving as press secretary.
Most recently, Jennifer served as Chief Executive Officer of Union Settlement, a 125 year-old East Harlem settlement house where she oversaw a transition of leadership, systematized operations, led an expansion of programs, sites and workforce investments.
Jennifer graduated from University of California at Berkeley with a Bachelor of Arts, received her law degree from George Washington University Law School and earned a Master’s in Public Administration at New York University’s Robert F. Wagner School of Public Service. Jennifer is a member of the G20 Global Smart Cities Alliance Open Contracting Task Force, a recipient of the Frederick Hayes Prize for Innovative Contributions to Public Service and served as an Adjunct Assistant Professor at NYU Wagner School of Public Service. She lives in Manhattan with her husband, three teenagers and their dog, Shea.
